From Furniture to Accountancy.
Phillips is a name that has been in business in the Telford area for many years.
It was over 100 years ago that Neil Phillips's grandfather, William Ernest Phillips, opened a shop in Dawley High Street selling a wide range of goods.
Such was the variety of goods that could be bought at the Phillips shop that it became known by its customers as 'Variety Phillips'.
Another interesting fact is that the Phillips shop was located on the site of the birthplace of Captain Matthew Webb, the first person to swim the English Channel.
The shop in Dawley eventually specialised in selling furniture and the business expanded with a second shop opening in Dawley as well as a shop in Ironbridge.
Following the Second World War the furniture business was continued by Neil Phillips's father and uncles under the name of W.E. Phillips & Sons.
“I have been very impressed with Phillips accountants. We are a new business and they have given us very sound advice and have been a great help.”
