We are the first firm of Chartered Accountants in the county to be authorised by ICAEW to carry out non-contentious probate work.

We are proud that we were the first firm of Chartered Accountants in Shropshire to be authorised by the Institute of Chartered Accountans in England & Wales to carry out non-contentious probate work.

Probate work has traditionally been carried out by firms of solicitors but we are delighted to now be able to offer this service to our clients.

As accountants we are in a prime position to understand the financial position of our clients and to deal with the inheritance tax consequences of their estate.

We also offer an inheritance tax planning service whereby we review the value of clients' estates and advise on what can be done to mitigate inheritance tax.

Whatís involved in the probate and estate administration process?

The process can be lengthy and complicated and will require the deceasedís personal representatives carrying out the following steps:

Locating the current will of the deceased

Applying for the grant of representation

Administering the estate, including liquidating the assets to pay debts and taxes and  in preparation for passing to the beneficiaries of the estate

         Preparing estate accounts

Distributing the assets to the beneficiaries in accordance with the will, or the intestacy law if there is no valid will.

To help you understand the whole process we have put together a Guide to Probate including a Glossarty or Terms which are commonly used which can be found on our website here.
